The DOCK aims to provide a safe gathering place and nurturing environment for school-aged kids after school and during the summer. A cornerstone of the Booker T. Washington Park neighborhood since 2004, the DOCK is celebrating its 21st year of service offering academic support, social-emotional development and safety for children, while also helping uplift the community.
The DOCK provides a holistic learning environment for kids to engage in various enrichment activities and continue their education outside of the classroom. The DOCK serves as a tremendous community asset by providing support for working parents; offering structure, supervision, and safety for kids; and, addressing socioeconomic disparities by creating equal opportunities for all kids to thrive!
A primary goal of the DOCK is to help kids overcome achievement gaps while enhancing and enriching their lives. DOCK staff and volunteers emphasize academic excellence by encouraging students’ interest in education; involving their families when possible; and, modeling and promoting healthy life choices in order to help kids see themselves as valuable members of their communities and emerging leaders who will influence positive community change.
At the DOCK we create spaces for kids to focus on their academic, spiritual, social, physical and intellectual development in a safe supportive environment. DOCK kids are empowered through positive reinforcement and quality programs. This supports the overall well-being of kids participating in the DOCK program and reduces engagement in risky behaviors during out-of-school time.
